CYTR Adoption Process

1. Research the available CYTR dog

Review the Available Dogs page or our Petfinder Page and read the profile of each dog.  In the write up you will find all that CYTR is aware of with each dog; the age, weight, temperament and even the adoption fee.

2. Request an Adoption Application for the specific CYTR dog you wish to adopt

Once you have determined that you would like to apply for a dog that suits your lifestyle; you simply email CYTR to request the adoption application.  It is always best to put a second choice on the application if you have a second choice.

3. Postal mail completed Adoption Application to CYTR

All members of the family have to sign the original copy to be mailed to CYTR.  Applications are processed in order that they are received.

4. CYTR will process the adoption application

Once the completed adoption application is received via postal mail; we will complete the reference checks and have them approved by the Board of Directors.

5. Home Visit at your home with your family and the CYTR dog to be adopted

CYTR will go to your home with the CYTR dog you are applying to adopt; this is to ensure a good personality fit between your family (including pets) and the new potential family member. It may not be possible 100% of the time to bring the dog to be adopted based on extenuating circumstances; geographic and such.  A report is then sent back to the Board of Directors for a decision on the adoption.

6. The Adoption Day!

When all paperwork is approved you will be notified that the Board of Directors has approved your application and to set up a day, time and location for the final adoption.  During the final adoption you will receive all forms required to ensure a good transition for your new dog into you family. Forms will contain: animals medical status, it's eligibility for Pet Plan Insurance Free for sixty days (if you call within 10 days of the adoption), the animals habits, food type & sleeping requirements, etc. An Adoption Contract must be filed with us in duplicate, a placement fee obtained & transport arrangements made for you to pick up your New Family Member.

7. The Trial Period

There is also a Trial Period, noted in our Adoption Contract, where we have the right to revisit to assess acclimation of the dog to ensure that all is well for you, your family and the animal.

Why would an application be turned down for a CYTR dog?

Not all homes are suited for a Rescued Animal, and the decision should NOT be taken personally, as we are a Rescue. In our experience it is in the best interest of the Rescued Animals that come into our care.

If your application is not Approved due to the animal "not" being deemed appropriate for your lifestyle at that time, you will be notified and your Application will be filed. It will only be reactivated if you contact us again regarding another "specific" Animal in our care.

How long does the adoption process take?

It varies depending on volunteer's time availability and on the reference checks and home visit scheduling. We apologize for any "timing" issues, please be patient, and feel free to follow up with us at any time.
